Everything in the universe is made of matter, that includes the device that you are reading this on. Chemistry is the study of this matter, what it is made from, how it is joined together and why it behaves the way it does.

Chemistry is at the forefront of new materials that are being developed to make our lives easier and more comfortable. Chemists are also designing new medicines to keep us healthy as we live longer.

Through our Chemistry courses we aim to develop the knowledge and problem solving skills of our pupils. We also want our young people to develop their investigation skills through activities in which they communicate scientific ideas and terminology.

The physics department is the perfect place to explore the wonders of the universe at Viewforth. From studying the smallest particles, through the forces that shape your everyday life, to the largest stars and galaxies in the night sky, there are topics that everyone will find interesting.

Throughout the physics courses, our pupils will develop useful life skills alongside interesting topic knowledge. Skills such as logical thinking, problem solving, and applied maths mean pupils come away from the physics department better served for life beyond school.
