Apple, Google, Amazon, Facebook, Spotify, Netflix – we’ve all heard of them. Most likely, we all use or have used at least one of them. But have you ever wondered about where and how those businesses were started? Most often, they started with a simple idea and a person or group of people with an unquenchable desire to succeed.
Steve Jobs & Steve Wozniak designed and built the first Apple computer in a friend’s garage!
Mark Zuckerberg came up with the idea for Facebook in his university dorm room!
Marc Randolph and Reed Hastings came up with the idea for Netflix, whilst sharing a car ride to work!
All of these people have any things in common, including the skill & qualities to make their business succeed, the ability to identify the needs & wants of the public and the drive and desire to enable their businesses to succeed. However, one set of skills stands out above all and is shared by every single one of the names mentioned above – They all had excellent ICT (information and communications technology) skills. As such, the S1 and S2 course at Viewforth is designed to introduce pupils to a broad range of different topics, covering both business and ICT, given that in today’s world, both business and ICT are more often than not intertwined.
The courses are delivered over two single periods each week, with much of the classwork being completed using Microsoft Teams.
- S3 Business Admin
The S3 Business Admin course aims to build on the skills and knowledge acquired during S1 and S2 and continues to combine Business and ICT, providing a more challenging set of tasks and topics. This format gives pupils the opportunity to experience both Business and Admin, which become separate subject in S4. This helps them decide on whether they wish to take Business or Admin or even both into their senior phase. Furthermore, the course gives pupils the chance to obtain a National 3 certificate in Business Admin.
